Micropipettes are essential tools in any modern laboratory, enabling precise and accurate liquid handling in volumes ranging from microliters to milliliters. At Sscientifique, we provide high-quality ISO 8655-certified micropipettes across India, helping scientists and students achieve reliable results in every experiment.
Whether you’re working in molecular biology, microbiology, or analytical chemistry, knowing how to properly use a micropipette is key to minimizing errors and maintaining consistency.
What is a Micropipette?
A micropipette is a laboratory instrument used to accurately measure and transfer very small volumes of liquid—usually in the microliter (µL) range. Sscientifique offers:
- Single-channel micropipettes (0.5–1000 µL)
- Eight-channel micropipettes (ideal for ELISA and plate assays)
- Bottle top dispensers (for safe reagent handling)
Tools You’ll Need
- Sscientifique micropipette
- Compatible sterile pipette tips
- Sample solutions
- Waste container for used tips
Step-by-Step Guide to Using a Micropipette
1. Choose the Right Pipette
Match your volume requirement to the pipette’s range:
- 0.5–10 µL
- 10–100 µL
- 100–1000 µL
Using the wrong pipette can lead to inaccurate measurements.
2. Set the Volume
Turn the adjustment knob to set the desired volume. Always read the volume display carefully.
Do not exceed the pipette’s maximum or minimum volume range.
3. Attach a Sterile Tip
Firmly press the pipette into a new, sterile tip until it fits securely.
4. Pre-Wet the Tip (for precision)
Aspirate and dispense the liquid a couple of times to condition the tip, especially for viscous or volatile liquids.
5. Aspirate the Liquid
- Press the plunger to the first stop.
- Immerse the tip into the liquid (2-3 mm below surface).
- Slowly release the plunger to draw in the liquid.
6. Dispense the Liquid
- Touch the tip to the receiving container wall.
- Press the plunger to the first stop, then to the second stop to expel all liquid.
- Slide the tip up along the container wall to avoid drips.
7. Eject the Tip
Press the tip ejector button into a waste container. Always discard used tips after one use to avoid cross-contamination.
Maintenance Tips
- Autoclave regularly (Sscientifique pipettes are fully autoclavable)
- Calibrate your micropipette every 6–12 months
